It is often not easy to know if a child’s difficulties are just a phase in the child’s development or are evidence of something more problematic. Psychologists are specialists who are trained to evaluate and assess such difficulties and to determine whether or not professional intervention is recommended to aid the child.
Accordingly, professional consultation is recommended if your child is experiencing academic, emotional, social or behavioral difficulties that are interfering with their well being.
My practice provides psychological services for children and adolescents struggling with anxiety difficulties. Anxious children often suffer silently, living in the quiet background of children with more disruptive behaviors. Anxiety, however, can interere with functioning and left untreated, can create increased difficulties for a child, over time putting them at risk for academic problems, depressive symptoms and social difficulties.
Early and accurate identification of these problems is important. The earlier you recognize your child's special needs and seek professional help, the greater the chances that your child can be helped to overcome their difficulties.
